Winter Music Program Thanks!

Thank you to all of our families who attended the Winter Music Programs this past week.  It was wonderful to watch our children as they celebrated the Holiday Season with music.  A special thank you to Miss Theresa DeYoung for her hard work in organizing this wonderful program.  We would also like to thank Linda Boyd, Helen Nolan, Mark Bilbry, and Martin Aparicio for their hard work with the set design as well as the set up of the stage and sound system. 

TAX CREDIT DONATIONS

Just a reminder that December 31st is the last day to make your School Tax Credit Donation and be able to claim it on your 2008 income taxes.  We are very fortunate to have very generous families here at Desert Heights have contributed a total of  $26,185.00 thus far this year.  Where does the money go? These contributions will help us continue to offer after-school programs and field trips. As a convenience to our parents, the office will be open on December 31st from 8-2 to accommodate those families that would like to make that last minute donation.

The Holiday Shop is now open!

This is a time for your children to be able to shop during school at "kid prices" for their loved ones. We will have a variety of different items for them to choose from. They will be coming in at designated times (except for middle school, who will need to come and shop on their own time).

Times: 7:30 am to 3:30 pm

Prices range from: $.25 to $17.50

Dear Desert Heights Family,
I hope that your holiday season is off to a great start! We are very excited about all of the activities we have planned for the month of December, so please be sure to check your monthly calendar periodically. We would like to thank all of you who supported our food drive this year. Our annual toy drive will start this week!

Many of you have made a tremendous effort to get your child here on time. We have implemented a school wide attendance incentive program to encourage students to prepare more efficiently in the mornings. We appreciate your attention to this very important matter. Again, our school wide attendance goal is a monthly average of 96% or higher. Unfortunately, we are still perilously close to 94%.

I hope that you are able to make it to our Flag Raising Ceremony this Friday at 2:30 p.m. During these ceremonies, we recognize our wonderful student’s academic, athletic and social performance. We also acknowledge parent volunteers, business and community relationships that we have, and our awesome staff. If you have not yet had an opportunity to attend a flag raising, we hope that you can make it this Friday. On a closing note, I would personally like to express my extreme gratitude and appreciation to those of you who completed a Desert HeightsCharter School Survey. I am so happy to report that the survey results indicate that our school community is very, very pleased with our program overall! As always, we will continue to work diligently to provide you and your children with an excellent educational experience. Have a great December!
